Before and After: Office Filing Cabinet

It's been a productive week for DIY projects around here!  Our office is on the list of reno projects, but for the time being we needed somewhere to stash all our paperwork.  Another great find on Kijiji, I picked up this boring, corporate beige two-drawer filing cabinet for just $25.

After several coats of glossy red spray paint and a switch to the anique style glass knobs I picked up last weekend at the Old House Revival Company, it's a whole new cabinet!

The vivid red is a little unlike me, but J has me branching out to brighter colours.  For our office, I plan to paint the walls either a soft gray or a brownish cream, complimenting the palette with black, crisp white and punches of red like in the cabinet.

Total project cost:
File cabinet - $25
2 cans spray paint - $13
4 glass knobs - $20
Grand Total = $58

And for the record, I did this one entirely on my own...J did colour consulting only!

Who says your office space has to be boring?

Lenore

  4. I did not know J was into this kind of stuff. It looks great! You just spray painted it? No sanding or anything? I wish I had made it to the old house revival place with you....another time.

  10. Hi Jessica,

For this project, I used Rustoleum. But now that I've done a few other spray paint projects, I really prefer Krylon. Good luck with whatever you're working on!

  11. Thank you Lenore. I'll take your advice and use Krylon. I was thinking of spraying some chair legs for my office.

  12. Very good! The new color works great; it's just so bright and lively. It adds a bit of spice to the office space. Plus, it's great that you did the work on your own.
