Hotel Hume-McGee Part 1

The guest room is the renovation project du jour.  We are expecting a couple of check-ins in April so it was time to really get it together.  Jack's sister will be coming in Easter weekend, and my dad and his wife for a visit to meet my sister's upcoming new baby boy (due any day!).

The room is tiny by most anyone's standards so it's a small spaces design challenge.  Luckily, our old house has tall ceilings.  I started by painting the room a perfect warm brownish-greyish taupe colour called Homespun Linen, #8465 from Cloverdale Paints.  I originally found the colour when I was painting the condo in Gimli and all the hardware store sold was Cloverdale.  I loved it so much I bought another gallon to use on Rosedale.

All the baseboards and trim were freshened up with a clean coat of white and Jack installed the finishing touches of courter-round and the blinds.  I've used these blinds in a few of my past homes now, because the faux wood style looks expensive but is really quite reasonable.  You can pick them up at Home Depot for a steal compared to similar custom styles.

Since we are running a little behind, Part 2 of this post will show completed photos with the bargain furniture steals I picked up over the last week.

Aloha from my house

Saturday mornings are de-lightful. I love to putter around my house, tidying up and drinking coffee and generally passing the time in super relax mode. We bought a lovely little house in the fall and I think I fall in love with it more every day. Since I am drawn to the beach lifestyle, the house colour palette is - of course - blues and greens and greys and sand colours.

I happen to have a great work friend named Brooke who happens to have taken a year off to live in Hawaii. I know, this makes it hard for you to like Brooke but trust me...she's awesome and she deserves this. At our Fusion office Christmas party, we did secret Santa gifts that were either local or we had made (the designers definitely had the gifts everyone coveted). Brooke drew my name and painted me the most amazing piece of art to fit into my beach decor. Even though she had never seen my house, she got my style bang on. I've been wanting to take a shot of Brooke's art in my living room to send to her in Hawaii but I thought you could all enjoy it! Happy Saturday morning!

My own ruby red slippers

Okay, so anyone who knows me well knows about my red Pumas. My comfy, cute, awesome red suede Pumas. That I got at the Puma store in New York City. In 2002. And wore for 6 splendid years until they got holes. Then my feet got wet when I wore them. So I threw them away. It was devastating. The replacement Pumas were neither red nor suede nor anywhere near as awesome. So it's been a long 15 months without them.

Until now!! I found them on zappos and I couldn't be more jazzed. They are currently on order and shall be getting onto my hot little feet any day now.

It's time to give this blogging thing an honest go of it. As a full-time copywriter, it can be tricky to muster up the time and energy to do any writing in my spare time. So to flex my writing muscle and bite off something I can chew, I'm going to start a blog. It was tough to hone in on one particular subject (because doesn't everyone want to hear what I think about everything??), but I'm going to just dive in and see where it takes me. Some of my main interests are trying new cooking recipes, shopping for cute clothes, reading self-help books, watching bad reality television, love, building a relationship with my dog, renovating, researching for the best bargain on anything, selling my old crap on Ebay, trying to stay in touch with wondeful girlfriends scattered across the country and figuring out the best ways to be happy as much as humanly possible. Well it's a start anyways...hope you enjoy!
