Lather in Style at Home Magazine!

It's here!! My round-up of favourite Winnipeg home decor and design shops (humble opinion of course...) and other goodies is live in the September issue of Style at Home magazine. I just received my digital copy and I couldn't be more thrilled! I love babbling on about how much I love Winnipeg and I'm a longtime subscriber and fan of the magazine. It's a match made in design heaven.

Style at Home contacted me after they saw my Winnipeg City Guide in Design*Sponge and asked if I'd do a Shops, Etc. page for Style at Home. Would I??? I think they could hear my squeals over email. I didn't tell you because I didn't want to jinx it...but here's a fun fact - I did all the photography myself!

You can read the full digital version of the September issue here and check out Style at Home's website here.

Be sure to let me know what you think friends!

Hey locals - do we share faves or would you have picked other great Winnipeg shops?

Magazines - you are my fave!

The new issue of Lonny is out!  As are many magazines this week, causing me to go into a thrill-inspired magazine buying coma...

Magazines are actually one of the things I love most in the world.  I have since I was a little girl and my mom kept a selection of Cosmo, followed by a stack of Chatelaine, followed by a bookcase full of Reader's Digest.  At the dentist office I would pore through the dog-eared issues of People magazine, zooming from the celebrity shots to the style section at the back.  I decorated my walls as a tween with pics from Tiger Beat and Bop magazines.  Then when I hit my mid teens there was Seventeen, YM and Sassy.  I've always loved Glamour, for their mix of fashion and real life issues.  Now I've moved on to primarily home and decor mags.

Like these new additions I picked up the the weekend...

My parents gave me a bit of a hard time for my magazine addiction growing up.  Yes, I know they cost money but they give me so much joy and pleasure!  They cost the same as a grande latte and I can lay on the couch for hours, basking in the sun and browsing through the gorgeous photography, smart ideas and great new sources for things.  For me, it is money well spent.  Is it really so bad for my vice to be dishing out $20 for a weekend of inspiration from reading magazines?  I say no way.

I even veered off my usual path and picked up a mag I've always eyed with a sense of longing...

It's my big dream to one day live next to the water, just as the lucky folks I read about here.  And reading about it just pushes me further to find ways to one day make it a reality.

But don't think I only buy them new...when I stumble across a garage sale box full of old Wish and House Beautiful magazines - I snag them quick!

Do you love magazines?  What's your all time fave and why?  Share your love of mags and join the club that doesn't apologize for it!

Happy Weekend

Good morning lovely friends!  I hope you're having a great day so far.  What's on your weekend agenda?  The weather continues to wow and amaze here in Winnipeg so J and I are puttering around the house working on projects and just enjoying the fall weather.

A big thank you for all your feedback on the direction of the blog.  I was somewhat surprised ti find how many of you like it just the way it is!  I guess it just goes to show that sometimes my own inner insecurities can get the better of me and I should feel more confident in what I'm doing here.  Thanks for reminding me of that!  I'll continue to incorporate the things you're enjoying and as for limiting the 'God talk', well I can't think of a single time I've ventured down that road :)  But if I'm feeling the urge to talk about something, I would hate to censor myself - just as you would too.  Let's take this blog one day at a time okay?

I have another commission from the wonderful Jeanette, you may remember her from the Crisp White Table I recently completed for her.

She's brought me a low dresser in need and I'm looking forward to turning it into a special Lather Creation.  It's a big baby and I'm planning to paint the drawers to take away some old smells, so I'm psyching myself up to tackle it.  I should get a good start on it this weekend.

Since it's the Thanksgiving long weekend here in Canada, I'm looking forward to plenty of chill time!  For me, this will involve...
  • Plenty of park time with Gus the pup
  • Eating cheesecake in bed while watching Season 1 of Californication
  • Baking those super easy banana muffins again because they're soooo good
  • Spending Monday with mom, sis, brother-in-law and the kidlets eating take out Thai food for an unconventional Thanksgiving dinner
  • Cleaning the bathroom (ugh!)
  • Reading the new issues of Fresh Home and Coastal Living that I just picked up (hey - a gal can dream!)
  • Working on a super exciting project I have in the works that I can't reveal yet cause I don't want to jinx it!!  I will share as soon as I can.
Yup, a packed weekend of almost all good stuff!  How about you friends?  How will you be filling your time?

    A Mag for the DIYers

I'm a magazine junkie and I always pick up a few on the way to the lake or on the weekends or...okay, I'm always reading magazines.  When we were heading out to Gimli on Friday I grabbed this one...

Do it yourself is published 4 times a year by Better Homes and Gardens and I have to say -  it was a pretty good read!  A really great balance of DIY projects, beautifully designed spaces and profiles on designers, shop owners and other creative types.  It's a little short but it I came away with some cool ideas so what else can you ask for?

If you love to do your own projects and be inspired by others, I would recommend picking it up!

Have you read any good new mags lately?  I'm still looking for Readymade but no luck yet!  Mind you, it's been awhile since I was in a big bookstore so maybe that's my excuse!

    Happy Monday friends!
