Old House Revival!

I'm like a little kid when I get excited.

I like to think I'm pretty resourceful when it comes to sourcing stuff for the house renovations.  So I was super thrilled to hear about a place right here in Winnipeg called the Old House Revival Company

This amazing space offers 3 floors of treasure hunting for vintage, antique, retro, reburbished and salvaged furniture and housewares.   A told me about it after her and her hubby picked up a solid oak door with wood etching and an old vintage lettermail opening.  She plans to paint it and add very cool modern hardware for a funky blend of old and new in her entrance way.  How did I not know about this until now??

Since our home was built in 1910, it retains a lot of the old character and features - but not always in the best of shape.

So although we have amazing 11 inch baseboards, we don't have enough of them.

Some of our door handles are the cool antique crystal knobs - some are the sad chipped brass ones.

It's a hodge podge and I have big plans to slowly bring the house back to life in a mix of vintage and modern.  I am so excited to hit the Old House Revival Co. and am planning my big expedition for Saturday.  I can't wait to see what I find!

What do you love to treasure hunt for?  What makes you excited like you're 8 years old again?

Lenore

  2. I would love a fellow treasure hunter! I haven't told J yet, so how about I just invite you instead? Are you free on Saturday (before Splurge I guess)? It's at Portage and Young.

  4. I wish I could come too, sadly the drive from Saskatoon is just a bit too far for a weekend of treasure hunting. I love those stores too, have fun ladies!

  5. I love that place. It's my kind of candy store - have fun looking for cool stuff for your place - I'm sure it won't be hard :)

Don't forget those things you pass by and laugh at or wonder why they're that crazy colour (40's housewife pink, canary yellow). I find those are the unique pieces you regret passing up (because they weren't "useful" or "practical" enough). Take a chance on something quirky!

    Have fun! xo B

  6. there's a few rad antique stores in the exchange district that I like to troll thru at least once a year. Mulvey flea market is good (better in the winter than the summer) and if I'm driving thru rural Manitoba during regular business hours I try to locate their local thrift stores and stop off.. I loves a good second hand shop :)

  9. Shauna - How's 1130am? I have some stuff to do later in the afternoon. I could pick you up?

Oh Jess, I wish you could come too!!

Thanks for the other recommendations, I'll have to check out Mulvey too and I'll post any good finds I get! The pictures above are of my current house, so I'm looking for pieces to fit into that era/style.

  10. Love love love Old House revival, we've found so many things there for out house, hardware, light fixtures, doors, flickering lights, the coolest chair ever (which was sold when I returned to show Kirk), cute knick knacks for kids rooms. Any why why, do I love their church pew?? I don't even go to church. But I want one for my cloak room. We're on the lookout for the perfect fireplace insert for Ava's room, let me know if you see a pretty one, OK? Or a big powder blue faux leather chair. Have a great time! SOOO fun!
