I think doors are so interesting.
They can open to let visitors into your home. Or you can close them and tuck yourself inside in your private personal space.
I love looking at doors on houses and seeing all the unique and interesting things people do with them. They are a huge statement opportunity and by simply changing the colour of a door, you can change the style of a house!
So I'm starting an ongoing series of posts on interesting doors. As they catch my eye, I'll photograph them to share. I'll watch for cool doors in my neighborhood, around the city and in my travels. If you have a great door to share, please send it along to me.
For my intro door, I decided to show you my favourite door on my street. I think it's elegant, without being stuffy and the cream/white/black colour palette is sharp and modern. I'm not usually a fan of brass accents but with this traditional style I think it really works!
Here's a wider view, to capture the great steps and pots, they really frame the door.
If you see a tall gal with a camera taking pictures of your door - it's a compliment! Hopefully no one minds...

I LOVE this. It's so true that doors are symbolic. It's fun to see how people welcome you into their home, how they want to face the world...
ReplyDeleteThanks Rachel! I'm excited to stalk some houses and photograph their doors. I wonder if door decor/design directly correlates to someone's personality? Just a coat of paint can really change your perceptions about a house.
ReplyDeleteI would totally go on a door stalking adventure with you. I could be your getaway car. I know there are some interesting doors and entrances in my neighbourhood.
ReplyDeleteOoh yes! Let's do that. Your neighborhood has amazing doors! Plan our adventure when I get back from my trip?
ReplyDeleteIn my mind's eye, I imagine a long line up at Indigo's with people waiting for hours to get an autographed copy of a book exhibiting the most amazing photography entitled "The Doors" written with love by Lenore. Books on Barns and Bridges have been photographed by the truckload....but doors, now that's new and exciting. BTW, your photography complements your writing beautifully...I'm enjoying the playful way you present your visual imagery equally as much as your writing.
ReplyDeleteHowever, speaking of doors symbolically, when we think of ourselves as 'open doors'...opportunities happen because our minds and our hearts are open to receive, especially when we "lose the judgement" factor....funny thing, those doors, eh?
Laura
So sweet Laura, you're so right. The more open our 'doors' are, the more open we are to accepting new things, feeling joy and letting opportunities come our way.
ReplyDeleteIt was great to see you.

There is an awesome red door on Wellington close to where it turns in to Stradbrook that I have admired for years. I think its because there is nothing around it to decorate it or obscure the fact that it's a red door. It's there. It's red. And you love it or you don't. Check it out when you can.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip! I'm sure there are a plethora of amazing options on Wellington...but I will check that one out first. I too love a red door!
