Before and After: Shabby Chic End Table

This little guy was a cute solid wood end table that was looking a little dark and dated.  But it has some really cool featues like a ring of carved wood circles along the bottom trim, which I wanted to show off.

This made it the perfect project for some 'shabby chic' distressing.  So I gave the whole thing a good sanding, followed by several coates of Behr's 'Straw'.  We had used that colour in our mudroom so it was nice cheap leftovers.  Where it looked more yellowish in on the walls, over the dark wood it took on more of an antique greyish cream tone - perfect!  After painting, I waxed the entire table, buffed it up then took a piece of sandpaper to any edges, trim or pointy bits.  Then I waxed it all over again the next day.  Here's the big reveal...

I think it worked out pretty good!  Here's hoping someone falls in love with it.  If you live in the Winnipeg area and you're interested in this piece - it's for sale here!

Whew!  I'm ready to flop on the couch now and watch mindless television...how is your Tuesday been friends?

  10. Thanks all, I'm loving doing it and all your awesome comments keep me going!

Mrs. Ford - as a matter of fact I DID read a book about distressing in particular. It's called Quick and Easy Paint Transformations. I've always been interested in this in general, and fixed up a lot of pieces over the year for my own home. But I ran out of room, so I started a business!
