Pretty Prints & Displaying Unique Photo Sizes

Maternity leave has been an unexpected joy. I'm a bit Type A so I worried the lack of structure might be challenging. Even though Huck wakes at a bit of an ungodly hour, I enjoy our leisurely routine of nursing, snuggling, coffee, playtime, breakfast (he's eating now - yikes!), reading stories and then nap. But as I've found my groove as a mama, I've looked for small creative projects to fill some of my extra time during naps. One such project has been printing and displaying some of the photography long stored both digitally and in boxes. (another project has been a writing gig I've recently taken on - more info to come on that soon!)

Also, I've been taking more opportunity to work with some of my favourite local photographers. When I heard that Simply Rosie was doing a photobooth at a holiday pop-up shop back in December, I jumped at the chance to capture some photo memories with Huck with her beautiful, vintage style. We took these sweet images, which arrived in adorable 4x5 cards. Super cute but not a traditional photo frame size. I hummed and hawed and finally went hunting at Target for a solution. Bingo! A clear frame was the perfect for displaying the four photos in a cool group setting. So if you're looking for a way to show off a picture in an off-frame size - check out this easy option.

Also the Spring version of the Pop Up Shop is right around the corner if you live in Winnipeg - more info here.

Have a wonderful week!

Introducing Huck Jackson McGee

Born October 20th, 2013 at a whopping 9 pounds, 15 ounces and 22 inches long. Where do I even start when it comes to talking about my new son (well, if you call 15 weeks new!)? Wow, just saying I have a son is pretty surreal. He's so great. I'm not going to lie...this parenting this is exhausting and emotional and stressful and challenging. But waking up to that smiling face? Worth it.

Here are my favourite shots from Huck's 9-day old photo shoot with Sunny S-H Photography. She's a real gem that Sunny. If you're looking for a family photographer in Winnipeg, I cannot say enough good things about her.

Our Maternity Photo Shoot

It's almost time for this baby to get here! I'm 36 weeks and I can't even believe I'm only 1 week away from term...the due date of October 11th is fast approaching (eeek!). We have been in overdrive the last few weeks getting our renovations done (pics to come!), getting the nursery ready (more pics to come!), celebrating my baby shower (I have the most wonderful people in my life!), working full-time AND waddling around with this giant belly. It's getting real folks....Huck's coming.

One of the things I really wanted to splurge on with this pregnancy was a photo shoot to capture this crazy/incredible/awesome/difficult time in our lives. We chose local photographer Sunny S-H for the job and boy did she deliver...I love how they turned out and I can't wait to look back on these over the years and remember this special time. Thanks so much Sunny!

Despite the 33+ heat that evening, Sunny was able to make everyone comfy and get that vintage-y, outdoors-y vibe I really wanted. The family photo at the end is my fave - the pups look so cute! If you're looking to capture a special family moment, be sure to give Sunny a call. She'll be shooting Huck's newborn shots and I can't wait to see him laying in little buckets and baskets :)

Have a lovely weekend friends!

Lather in Style at Home Magazine!

It's here!! My round-up of favourite Winnipeg home decor and design shops (humble opinion of course...) and other goodies is live in the September issue of Style at Home magazine. I just received my digital copy and I couldn't be more thrilled! I love babbling on about how much I love Winnipeg and I'm a longtime subscriber and fan of the magazine. It's a match made in design heaven.

Style at Home contacted me after they saw my Winnipeg City Guide in Design*Sponge and asked if I'd do a Shops, Etc. page for Style at Home. Would I??? I think they could hear my squeals over email. I didn't tell you because I didn't want to jinx it...but here's a fun fact - I did all the photography myself!

You can read the full digital version of the September issue here and check out Style at Home's website here.

Be sure to let me know what you think friends!

Hey locals - do we share faves or would you have picked other great Winnipeg shops?

Engagement Photos Sneak Peek

Ah! Out amazing photographer Leah Bima sent over a few sneak peek pics from our engagement session yesterday to share with you on the blog.

What a day! The weather was NOT cooperating with us for the first couple of hours - it kept alternating between wicked winds, spitting rain and moments of calm. We tried to jump in on those whenever we could. Let's just say my diva-like concern over my hair had to be 'let go', hence the wind-swept looks!

Also, we had a little wardrobe malfunction with J's shirt from the cleaners so I had to switch out the green cardi. Sorry to disappoint! Leah was also great at making poor J feel comfortable - let's just say he equates getting his picture taken to having his teeth pulled. But he was a trooper knowing how important capturing this special time was to me!

For our pics, we really wanted a super candid and casual, not-so pose-y vibe in one of our favourite places on earth (spectacular beach town Gimli). The gorgeous scenery was equally as important to us as our own selves (and Gus!) in the pics. The sun finally showed it's face later in the shoot and we tried to take in as much as we could. I can't can't wait to see the rest of the shoot - enjoy friends!

Furniture and Photographers

Hello Saturday morning!

Remember I told you about the meeting I had scheduled last weekend with a couple of photograhers? Well I'm super excited, because they have both officially become new Lather Creations clients! Erin and Melanie both shoot family, baby and and children's photography here in Winnipeg and I absolutely love both their style!

Here's a little peek at Erin's beautiful work...

 And Melanie's stunning shots...

When Melanie contacted me about using some of my furniture as photo shoot props and bringing along some photographer friends, I said yes yes yes to that! *If you're looking for local photogs, these are two great girls to call...

Melanie took home the Milk White Weathered Warm Chair I had for sale. Remember this sweet thing?

Plus I'm working on this toddler-sized school chair for her as well!

Erin wanted her own 100-year-old pressed back chair, but in a more vibrant colour. So I'm hard at work on this for her...(no hints - you have to check back for the colour she chose!)

Plus I'm recovering this antique bench in some super bright and fabulous fabric...

They won't be done for a while but I will definitely share the 'after' pics when the time comes!

This weekend I also have my Splurge group, my sis and I are taking my grandma on an outing and I FINALLY have to finalize the design on my wedding invites.

How about you friends? What are you up to this weekend?

Fun Photobooth = Happy Bride

Hello and happy Sunday! It's raining here ( I love love rain!) which means spring is finally coming to Winnipeg. AND it happens to be the first day of Spring so yay for that. J and Gus and I are having movie day under the duvet and in between we're puttering around doing laundry, painting furniture and blogging of course!

It's been a while since I've shared a wedding update and truthfully, that's because it's been in a bit of a lull. All the 'big stuff' is booked and now I'm just concentrating on details. But with my upcoming Red River College workshops, tax season and a special project I can't share with you yet - well let's just say it seems to never slow down!

My biggest wedding challenge is currently the invitations, I'm learning the design programs as I go so it's a wee bit slow. Plus I'm having trouble narrowing down a style. I may have to show you some of my options and see what you think! Another day...

Today we're talking photography. I have always wanted a photobooth at the wedding, I thought it would be such a fun and candid way to capture the fun of the night - both for guests and for us. But renting one was out of the budget. But my AMAZING wedding photographer Leah Bima has agreed to bring her portrait set up and studio lights so we can create our own at the venue - I just have to create some backdrops and props. SOOOOOOO EXCITED!!!!!!  I'll be hunting for cool fabric, maybe even making my own painted backdrop with vintage white sheets and hand painted bunting....oh so many ideas...

Here's a few photobooths I've seen in the wedding blogs, so fun and inspirational!
