Post-Wedding Randoms

Helllooooo! It feels so good to be back, typing away on my Macbook on a Sunday morning while sipping hot coffee. Except this time, I'm married! Truth is, it doesn't really feel that different and I'm okay with that. It just feels really good. The wedding was absolutely amazing, filled with so much love from family and friends - Jack and I are super blessed. I promise once I get some pictures I will share.

We spent a week relaxing at J's cabin after the wedding, so here's a little cheesy tourism pic of us at the Killarney entrance! Gus was totally not cooperating with the camera...

I had packed for cool September weather and would you believe it hit +30 almost every single day we were there?? So I pretty much had to wear the same thing every day. Fashion horror! Not that I had anyone to see me, we passed our days relaxing, Jack did lots of fishing, reading, going for walks and watching movies. One day we took out the camera (Jack has been wanting to get better acquainted and I'm still learning!) and we played around with the prairie landscape. I made him take some outfit shots of me and at one point I think he actually said 'work it!'.

I even snuck in a few of him too....I love these shots.

And a few other randoms.

I hope you enjoyed hearing from all my guest bloggers over the last 9 nine days, they did an incredible job and I encourage you to check out all of their awesome blogs. Thank you to Rosemary, Amy, Lorraine, Rebecca, Cassie, Lisa, Krystal, Ren and Jamie! To catch up on all the Wedding Guest Posts you can go here!

Eeek, back to work tomorrow.....plus I've been thinking a ton about the direction of the blog, fall projects, fall fashion.....so much!! I'm sure I'll be back soon babbling about it all.

Tell me friends, how has your week been?

Youth is Bliss

Happy weekend to you all! I hope you had a memorable one. I had one of the best days I've had in a long time on Saturday, when three girlfriends and their kids came out to visit Gus and I in Gimli for the day. We had hummed and hawed over the not-so-great forecast but decided to make the best of it. It turned out to be a fantastic day, a little cooler and very breezy but still lovely. We bbq'd, hung out, took a trip to the beach and floated in the giant lake-turned-wave pool. The kids squealed at everything - from chasing Gus around to finding rocks to dipping their toes in the massive waves. It was truly joyful!

Here's a few pics to share with you...

Doesn't seeing things through the eyes of a child make everything brighter?

Announcing {Lake Love Week}

Gus wants to know if you had a good weekend? (I do too!)

We sure did, lounging around our Gimli cottage, me reading for hours on end while J and Gus took early morning fishing trips on the boat. It truly is my slice of heaven that place...we are so blessed to be able to escape Winnipeg's scorching summer heat and be on the lake in just one short hour.  So I thought it would be fun to share a whole week of posts about Lake Life (or as I like to call it - Lake Love)!

I finally took my camera out there and snapped tons of shots for you. So watch for posts in the next few days that include a Gimli cottage tour, my lake life beauty routine, a casual outfit post and a fave lake recipe to keep you cool.

It's going to be a great week friends - do come back soon!

Style Peek: Weekend Friend Style

Hi friends! Happy Monday to you all...did you have a good weekend? Mine was superb. One of my bestest came in from Calgary for a work conference and extended her stay to include a weekend with me. It had been over a year since we've seen each other so there was oodles to catch up on! Plus since my move to Winnipeg three and a half years ago, I've been missing my strong established circle of girlfriends. It was joyful to spend time with someone who knows me so well. It will be hard to see her go :(

Friday we stayed up late drinking beers on a patio near my house and Saturday we were up bright and early for a day of shopping and eatings (girls fave things!!). We had breakfast at Stella's, browsed the St. Norbert's Farmers Market, shopped on Academy and in the village and had afternoon Margaritas on the patio at Carlos & Murphy. In the evening, J joined us for a bbq and some laziness. It was a scorcher that day so we dressed appropriately...

Floral top - Kohls
Denim shorts - Gap
Flip flops - Joe Fresh
Necklace - Silver Lotus Boutique

Isn't Danielle a cutie? Her style is such a cute mix of surfer/skater girl and super feminine details!

Sunday was another perfect day so J and I decided to whisk Danielle away to my fave place on earth - Gimli! We took the boat and zipped around the lake, stumbling upon the most amazing calm, private beach. We chilled out while J fished, then we had pickeral dinner at the Beach Boy. The day was capped off with frozen yogurt and a walk around the Forks. Perfect!

Floral headscarf - thrifted
Sunglasses - American Eagle Outfitters
Navy tank top - Old Navy

Aaahhhh, I'm totally relaxed after such a great weekend. I love the easy chatting that comes with being old friends.

By the way, I've been in heavy duty scarf hunting mode for my Scarf Swap, and I'm loving the retro 50's headscarf look for summer!

From the Cabin Kitchen: AM + PM Smoothies

Hey friends! Happy Monday! Did you all have a good weekend? We had a blast out at the cabin, just relaxing and fishing and reading and sleeping in. I always feel so refreshed when I come back from doing nothing. How about you?

Today I'm sharing my favourite smoothie recipe - I make these every weekend (just coffee on the run on weekdays!). I've always loved yogurt so this is almost like dessert in a cup!! It works so good with different fruit combos and even frozen fruit works great, meaning these can be enjoyed year round!

AM Smoothie

In a blender, mix together:
-4 or 5 large cut strawberries
-1 banana
-1/2 cup fat free plain yogurt
-1/2 cup almond milk

So good!!

But what's a girl to do come 4:40 at the lake when it's cocktail hour?

I decided to put a little grown up spin on my fave smoothie by making a few ingredient swaps...

PM Smoothie

In a blender, mix together:
-4 or 5 large cut strawberries
-1/2 cup cut pineapple (or you could still use the banana, it gives good smooth texture)
-1/2 cup fat free plain yogurt
-splash of almond milk
-2 oz Malibu coconut rum

Oh yes - a healthy yet indulgent vacation in a glass!! This was enjoyed during a very competitive game of bocce ball with J...I won of course.

What's your fave summer smootie/cocktail friends? Any fun new fruit combos I should try?

Style Peek: Cabin Fever

Happy Friday friends! J and I took the afternoon off and we're packing up to head out to the cabin with Gus. Can you say awesome? So here's a peek at what I REALLY look like for my weekends of relaxation - granted it's not the chicest of looks but I feel good in it. For my lake weekends, my packing list includes:
  • Comfy clothes like loose T's, soft shorts, oversized sweatshirts, flip flops and no blow-dryer
  • A stack of new magazines, from fashion and style to trashy celebrity reads
  • My latest novel - I'm currently reading 'Nantucket Nights' by Elin Hilderbrand - juicy!
  • A mix of healthy eating (salads, fruit for smoothies, eggs and whole grain bread) balanced with some indulgent treats (steaks for the bbq, baked chips and Malibu for my Crystal Light!)

White T-shirt - American Eagle Outfitters
